The blues – in its form, vocabulary, and spirit – is an intrinsic, foundational element of jazz. As the music has developed across the past century-plus, we have encountered manifestations of these roots in every imaginable style, from Dixieland to the avant-garde. Hank O’Neal’s Chiaroscuro Records catalog has long reflected the centrality of the blues in the jazz idiom, and its kaleidoscopic expression in the hands of different interpreters. The All Blues Anthology on Double-Vinyl and Compact Disc collects 15 instrumental blues tracks dating from 1971 to 2003, and featuring a host of jazz legends like Clark Terry, Junior Mance, Mary Lou Williams, Earl Hines, Jay McShann, Zoot Sims, Lillette Jenkins, Milt Hinton, and more.
