"In a world where we seem to be gravitating towards the artificial, people everywhere are longing for music and art rooted in tradition - because it's more nutritious for the soul."
Through a career spanning five decades, more than 40 albums, three Grammy nominations, a host of Blues Foundation awards and other accolades, Eric Bibb has secured his place among the great blues troubadours of our times. Storyteller, philosopher, and exceptionally talented musician.
Born into a family of music and activism, Eric's father, the late Leon Bibb, was a folk singer and key figure in the civil rights movement, marching alongside Dr. Martin Luther King; and his uncle, John Lewis, was a composer and pianist with the prestigious Modern Jazz Quartet. Growing up in the Village folk scene, Eric found inspiration in family visits from Pete Seeger, Joan Baez, and Bob Dylan (who once advised the 11-year-old Eric on guitar playing: "Keep it simple, forget all that fancy stuff.") Eric took heart, and through the years became deeply influenced by Richie Havens, Odetta, and Taj Mahal - eventually synthesizing a blues style uniquely his own.
On his ambitious new album, "Live at the Scala Theatre," the singer/songwriter and acoustic fingerstyle ace transcends the blues form through a warm soundscape of traditional and classical accompaniment: pedal steel guitar, violins, harmonica, cello and kora. Recorded in an intimate theater near Eric's home in Stockholm, Sweden, the sound is crystal-clear, his guitar and voice honey-rich. It's a captivating collection of personal favorites from his vast song catalog and several classic blues covers - a must-have for any roots music fan. In addition to offering Eric's CD, we designed a special t-shirt to celebrate his art. 100% of the profits we receive from the sales of both items will be given directly to him.
