Brad Mehldau - Suite: April 2020 |
Considered one of the best jazz pianists of his generation, Brad Mehldau is a master of improvisation, composition, dexterous play and genre-bending style. While sheltering at home with his family in the Netherlands during the COVID-19 pandemic this spring, he wrote 12 new songs about what he was experiencing - and then safely recorded them in an Amsterdam studio. He added fresh interpretations of three classic tunes and titled the 15-song solo piano collection "Suite: April 2020."
In turns poignant, introspective, bittersweet and uplifting, the music beautifully connects the personal challenges, observations and revelations we all face alone and together. Highlights include the deeply moving piece, "Remembering Before All This," the soulful "Family Harmony," and the hopeful "Look For the Silver Lining."
From the start of this project, Brad pledged to help musicians impacted by the worldwide pandemic cancellation of live music tours, concerts and gigs by donating a large portion of the proceeds from this album to the Jazz Foundation of America's COVID-19 Musicians' Emergency Fund. With tremendous gratitude to Brad for his work and his kindness, we're sending 100% of the proceeds from the sale of this CD directly to the Jazz Foundation to continue their urgent work. |
